Sheffield, Sharrow, Spaceworks ...
Sheffield's Town Hall bosses (copyright The Star) like to think of it as the 4th biggest city in England. This is more to do with the quirks of local authority boundary location than reality. A trip to Birmingham (see photo above) demonstrates that our city is not really that big, but is that a good or bad thing? One of the ways it is good is that what is going on in one part of the city does often feel very relevant to people in another area, because it really is never really that far away ... you can cycle across the city in 30mins (but, perhaps not drive it that quickly).
This week has seen a few events that have touched us from across the city, including:
Pub Scrawl, 10 pub trip around the city centre on Friday night and curated by the wonderful Pete Mckee (he knows everyone!) was quintessentially Sheffieldy. Big ambition, at the perfect scale, the presence of the This is England cast (in character) in the Washington courtesy of Warp Films was amazing ... read more here.
Then there was the sadness of Sheffield Museums funding cuts announced last week, which was caused widespread disbelief and the winding up of Find it on Frooly too.
So Sheffield may not be the biggest, but it is one of the best places to work, rest and play we know!
